Exploring the Green Side of Sioux Falls: Park Highlights & Coffee Stops from The Jasper Stone

One of the best parts about waking up at The Jasper Stone Bed & Breakfast is knowing that outdoor adventure is practically right outside our front door. Situated in the heart of historic South Phillips Avenue, our location lets guests seamlessly transition from a relaxing morning at the inn to exploring the vibrant green spaces that make Sioux Falls so special.

Whether you’re looking for a gentle morning stroll, a scenic bike ride, or a local spot to sip an espresso surrounded by nature, here is your insider guide to exploring our local parks—complete with our favorite coffee stops along the way!

1. Neighborhood Strolls: Lyon Park & McKennan Park

You don’t need to drive anywhere to start enjoying the fresh air.

  • Lyon Park: Located just a few blocks from our door, this historic neighborhood park is perfect for a quick, quiet morning loop before breakfast.
  • McKennan Park: A short walk southeast brings you to one of the city’s most beloved green spaces. Known for its historic sunken gardens, stone pillars, mature trees, and summer evening concerts, it’s an ideal spot for a peaceful afternoon read.

2. The Big Sioux River Recreation Trail & Fawick Park

Sioux Falls boasts an incredible 19-mile paved Greenway Trail Loop that encircles the entire city, following the curves of the Big Sioux River.

  • Heading down to Fawick Park (home to the iconic bronze replica of Michelangelo’s David) puts you right on the Riverwalk.
  • From here, you can rent an electric bike or simply walk along the riverbanks, taking in the downtown skyline and public art installations.

The Coffee Stop: Grab an artisan pour-over or a cold brew at The Source Coffee Roastery (located right inside the Jones421 building along Phillips Avenue) or stop by Josiah’s Coffeehouse & Bakery for a signature latte and a fresh-baked pastry before hitting the trail.

3. The Crown Jewel: Falls Park

No trip to Sioux Falls is complete without spending time at Falls Park. Spanning 128 acres, this is where the city gets its name. You can watch thousands of gallons of water drop over dramatic pink quartzite rock formations every second. Walk up the five-story observation tower for a 360-degree view of the city skyline, or explore the historic ruins of the 19th-century Queen Bee Mill.

The Coffee Stop: Refuel near the falls! Pick up a quick espresso at La Luna Café or grab a seasonal drink at Brioux Falls Coffee in the Steel District, situated right along the northern end of the Riverwalk near the falls.

4. Day-Trip Destination: Good Earth State Park

If you’re craving a longer hike surrounded by native prairie grass and woodland trails, take a quick 15-minute drive south to Good Earth State Park at Blood Run. As one of the oldest sites of human settlement in the upper Midwest, it offers rich indigenous history, peaceful hiking routes along the river bluffs, and breathtaking sunset views.
